Since being elected as a Ward 2 Councillor, my focus has been on listening to my constituents to understand and advocate for your priorities.

Hello, I’m Rodrigo Goller.

My wife, our 7 year old and I live in Ward 2. We love this community and are grateful to call Guelph home. My family moved to Guelph in 1996. I completed high school here and graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy.

I am a strong believer in contributing to my community through volunteering. I have sat on the board of directors of:
  • Transition Guelph
  • The Guelph-Wellington Volunteer Center (later renamed to the People Information Network)
  • The Wellington Water Watchers
  • Grand River Conservation Authority
  • Downton Guelph Businsess Association

 I currently volunteer on the board of directors of the Guelph Non-Profit Housing Corporation and my son’s school’s Parent School Council.

Before being elected to Guelph City Council in 2018, I worked as a Community Engagement Coordinator at the City of Guelph. I’m also a former downtown Guelph small business owner. Since being elected as a Ward 2 Councillor, I have focused on listening to my constituents, understanding your needs and concerns, and advocating for the issues you care most about. I am a committed advocate for:
  • affordable housing and sensible growth that protects our neighbourhoods,
  • delivering value for your tax dollars,
  • protecting our green spaces,
  • community and road safety,
  • public transit and active transportation, and
  • greater accountability and communication from City Council.

I believe that Guelph City Council needs to focus on providing the best value for your hard earned money. City Council must look for cost-savings and focusing on providing adequate funding for essential municipal services. I currently serve as Chair for the Internal Audit Committee, which is responsible for internal audits, including value-for-money audits. I also represent Guelph City Council on the boards of directors of Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health and the Guelph Public Library.

My Focus at City Hall

I champion policies and funding to tackle the housing crisis head-on, focusing on smart growth that protects the unique character of our residential neighbourhoods.

  • Government-Owned Affordable Rental Housing: The private market cannot solve this crisis. I successfully championed the start of three new city-owned affordable rental projects and will continue pushing for municipal leadership in affordable housing.
  • Downtown Revitalization & Gentle Density: By fixing aging downtown infrastructure, we unlock capacity to focus our growth and density in downtown Guelph, which directly results in thriving local businesses. In our surrounding neighbourhoods, I advocate for sensible “as-of-right” infill (like fourplexes) to increase supply without disruptive high density towers.
  • Preparing for Growth & Healthcare: As Guelph builds more housing, our critical infrastructure and healthcare capacity must keep pace. I strongly support starting a municipal savings account now to pay for the community’s share of a desperately needed new hospital.

I respect your hard-earned money and am committed to ensuring tax dollars are well spent to deliver high-quality services our residents expect. I am committed to keeping our municipal budgets focused on delivering efficient municipal services, and fighting against unfair tax burdens on Guelph residents.

  • Fiscal Accountability: I championed a freeze on City Council pay for this term and co-sponsored motions to reduce our multi-year operating budget. Council must lead by example and tighten its belt during challenging economic times.
  • Fair Funding for Guelph: It’s unsustainable for municipalities alone to fund social supports and solve the homelessness crisis. I will advocate for the Provincial government to pay its fair share so property taxpayers aren’t left footing the bill.
  • Delivering Value on Essential Services: Keeping taxes in check requires constant vigilance over how your money is spent. I advocate for better, more cost-effective daily services—including reliable snow clearing, adequate road maintenance and more frequent public transit—to ensure we get the absolute best value for our tax dollars

Smart growth must go hand-in-hand with robust environmental protections. I will continue to fight for Guelph to remain a green, sustainable city that meets our climate change targets.

  • Protecting the Canopy: I championed the enhanced Tree Protection By-law, successfully increasing protections for mature trees (30cm dbh) on private lots across the city.
  • Ambitious Parkland Targets: When city staff recommended reducing our parkland targets, I fought to keep our larger, aspirational goals. This ensures we have the framework to expand our public parks in the future.
  • Active Transportation & Public Transit: Meaningful climate action means giving people reliable, sustainable alternatives to driving. I strongly advocate for modernizing our public transportation network by increasing active transportation connections, bus routes and shifting Guelph Public Transit to a more efficient grid pattern to improve travel times across the city.

Every resident deserves to feel safe walking, cycling, and living in Guelph. This requires a balanced approach of modern policing, safe road design, and compassionate bylaws.

  • Equipping our Police: I strongly support adequate funding for Guelph Police Service so they can respond effectively to emergencies. This includes funding the Human Trafficking Unit and the IMPACT team (which pairs mental health clinicians with officers to compassionately navigate the addictions and mental health crisis).
  • Balanced Public Space Use: I advocated for the Public Space Use Bylaw to balance the safety of all residents with the rights of our most vulnerable. This bylaw protects sensitive areas like parks and downtown squares while establishing legally permitted, supported locations for unhoused community members to shelter safely.
  • Safer Roads: I will continue to support investment in traffic calming measures. I championed automated speed enforcement, red light cameras and getting more speed radar signs. I will continue fighting to protect pedestrians and cyclists on our roads and sidewalks.
